Everyone loves whitewashed wood! It is seen in so many of our favorite home design styles such as Fixer-upper, farmhouse and Scandinavian.
Today I want to share with you some super easy and fun techniques to create gorgeous whitewashed wood! Use them to build plank walls, ceilings or floors, and add that timeless beauty to your home!
Can you imagine that with a piece of wood and a candle, you can create something as beautiful as the whitewashed plank wall below?
Step 1: Take a clean piece of wood and a candle. The wood I used here is from an old pallet. It has a little bit of texture. This method will work with any type of wood. Rub the candle at random spots on the wood.
Step 2: Paint the wood white. Let dry completely.
Step 3: Use a rag and wipe the surface with some pressure. The paint will come off where the wax was rubbed onto the wood. How easy is that?
Now you have seen the candle technique, you may also love the scraper technique and the rag technique, with video tutorials here!
These techniques are great for new wood and reclaimed wood!
You can age the wood naturally with home-made super effective and low cost wood stains: recipes here to make wood stains in any color!
I also used these techniques to create distrees painted wood in layers of colors. Full tutorial at the link below!
