I'm not picky by no means. But, when I searched and searched for the perfect mirror for our modern farmhouse bathroom remodel and finally found just the right one, I had to have it. Problem was, the mirror I fell in love with cost $562...and we needed 2. This price didn't fit our idea of keeping our remodel on a budget so we decided to make our own set of Restoration Hardware inspired mirrors for 10% of their cost.
We purchased the mirror at Lowes and cut the rounded edges ourselves but you could take it to a glass shop and have them round the edges for you for between $10-20 per mirror. We used the edge of a small wood stain can to trace our curve. Be sure to use gloves and safety glasses if you cut it yourself.
We also purchased (2) 1" wide x 6' long pieces of aluminum flat bar for each mirror. It's easy to bend and easy to drill holes into later for the nails.
The back of the mirror is made of 1/2" beech plywood we had left over from a previous project. You'll also need to purchase mirror adhesive, 1″ black panel nails, D-ring hangers and black spray paint.
After the mirror was cut, we traced the mirror onto the plywood and cut it out using a jigsaw.
After gluing the mirror to the wood, we wrapped the mirror with the aluminum flat bar.
Since we had to use 2 pieces of the flat bar, we had to cut them to length to make the joints meet at the top and bottom. The metal was painted before we attached it with the 1" black panel nails.
I love the minimalist feel of the mirrors and I love the price even more! Click here to see the full post with more details on the instructions.
