What's the best sealer for paintings that will hang outside

My small town is going to ask local artist, adults and kids,to donate their art work, paintings, drawings,to be auctioned off with the proceeds to go towards our fundraising project to build a splash pad. First we'll hang on them a brick wall and an empty buildings glass in the downtown area for a period of time. So I'm thinking canvas will be ok to hang inside on the glass but what would be best to paint on and hang on brick since we'll have wind and rain and what's the best sealer we can use to preserve them. Thank you.

Try the Clear High Gloss spray paint by Krylon 🎨

I like to paint on slate. I think any natural surface would work outside. Metals would work too! As far as sealing goes, maybe an outdoor polyurethane product, but I would do a small test piece before applying to your finished art.

You could prime and paint with outdoor paints too!

Painting on several layers of glass with the top piece of glass is a neat project that would withstand outdoor conditions. Just seal the wood frame with sealer or outdoor paint. Glaze the top sheet of glass to seal.

I hope these ideas spark something magical in your art for charity! Good luck😊

Depending on the size of area - an all natural way to reduce them, is with a can of beer. Put a shallow dish (e.g. jar cap) and pour beer in it. Slugs come out and drown themselves.

Have you thought of laminating them?

No I haven't. Any ideas on how best to do it. Thanks

Whatever you decide to use, test it against the paint/medium before coating the whole project as some chemicals will cause the paints to change colors. Also, canvas have wooden frames and if they get wet will swell. They were not intended to be weather resistant. There are excellent "outdoor" acrylic paints available at the craft/hobby retailers. These painnts are great for pain on cermanic tiles, rocks, bricks, and similar objects. Best wishes for a successful program.

There are many good sealers available at Michael's - one thing to point out is - if your artwork is going to be outside for quite a while, read the labels (or ask staff for help) and see if there is a sealer that has UV filter in the solution. This will prevent fading from the sun.

Office Max and Office Depot laminate posters, so I'm sure the pictures wouldn't be a problem. Also you can google: laminating companies, graphic companies near you. Most graphic companies do lamination.

I agree with the last poster. Laminating is good. However, if you are wanting people to buy the art and you just want to protect them until sold - you can use canvas: Rustoleum makes a product call "Never Wet" that you can spray the finished art with for it to hang outside.

I replied last night but I believe the site was having some problems. Staples and OfficeMax/Depot actually do laminating in house. You can also contact any graphic design company in your area. Just look up laminating and graphic services.
