Buy seed starting soil mix. Start them in trays or egg cartons With one or two seeds in each space. When they get become established transplant into two to four inch containers.
Once they get to be eight or ten inches then transplant by your fences using good planting soil. To discourage animals and insects from eating them build a little netting cover until established. Water until established and they will grow like crazy!
Make sure to have plenty of bird netting to put over plants when they start putting on berries.... Birds will be your #1 enemy!!!!
Thanks. I'm going to need all the help Ican get.

I use huge tomato cages around my established plants. I also have woven wire on the fence behind. As the canes get bigger and start coming out of the top of the cages, I loop tie them to the wire. Loop tie- coil like a rope. It's pretty easy for them to get out of control.
Blackberries are one of the most invasive species, So make sure you tend them well to prevent them from spreading. It might be advisable to plant in a metal lined trench so they can't spread.... they sprout off root stock. Ask for a metal trench like they use with other invasive species bamboo.
The thornless variety does not taste as good; nor are they as sweet. Growing from seed is more difficult than from cutting.
