It would be so much simpler to put down the dirt then sow the seed on top. If it was mixed, a lot of the seed would not sprout because of being buried too deep.
Use a Barrow or large container and put in one shovel of each and mix. Proceed in this way until all is done.
For proper grass seeding, applyy several inches of top soil, grass seed, starter fertilizer, lime and peat moss.Keep moist at all times.Doing this procedure any other way to make it quicker will not be to your benefit
I tried raking the soil and then put a small amt of dirt down and then lightly raked it and put seed on top and then sprinkled dirt on top again and watered lightly every other day and nothing came up? Why? I need real help, my beautiful Kentucky Bluegrass sod with all these bare spots is ugly, any other suggestions let me know. Thanks to those who replied.
Hello Teichj, Your soil may be the problem. I recommend dissolving 2 tablespoons of Epson Salt in a gallon of water. Sprinkle it on the bare spots. Then water it really good. Extra water will help the roots receive the enzymes in the Epson Salt. I think that will take care of your problem. You can reapply every week at first and then every couple weeks after you see an improvement. Best wishes.
Thanks for all the help. I'll give it another good try. Lucky me I just bought some Epson salt. I'll try everything. Again my appreciation goes out to all with all of the suggestions. If I can help someone--just ask
