No question. Great idea for trash storage.

If that works for you, then great! As long as someone doesn't accidentally turn it on while it's full of trash!!!
Should be able to disconnect the water connection to the dishwasher or unplug the dishwasher from the electric source if you have not already done so.
Such a smart idea, thanks :)
If you never use it then itvwill stop working so I suggest running it from time to time. it happened to my Mom when she went to sell her house
I love your idea!! If you ever want to pull it for cabinet space, IKEA has a cabinet system that fits the space perfectly. I looked for a long time and finally found it there. I would have totally used it for recycling if I had thought about it!
Thanks for sharing!

I have a bad back as well and can sympathize as dishwashers are hard on the back. Your idea is fine (if it solves your problem and gives you more storage) but keep in mind that if you ever sell your home, the dishwasher hoses, etc. MAY have dried out and cracked or split thus resulting in a major leak if it's turned on. If I were you, I'd run the dishwasher at least once a week - on the short "rinse and hold cycle" - just to keep those hoses pliable. Then, down the road, if you ever sell, you won't have an issue selling a house with a defective dishwasher. After the brief "rinse and hold" cycle, just pop in your recyclables again.
