Do you find art ridiculously expensive? I do! No matter where I go I will find a beautiful (not original) paintings on canvas anywhere from places like Hobby Lobby, Target, TJ Maxx, Pier One Imports and so forth. However, I always gasp at the price they are usually asking for one. Even the smaller ones, so I decided I'd just make my own. I spent less than $20 on two canvases that are actually burlap stretched over a 3ft by 1ft 1/2in frame and painted with white acrylic on top. I found them at Hobby Lobby. They were originally $13.99 but they were 50% off that day so I got a great deal. You could use any kind of size, shape, or textured canvas for this. Here's the easy DIY......
All I did was choose the colors that best went with the rest of my decor. Really, you can do whatever colors you'd like. Mix, match, and just paint! I sporadically squeezed colors on the canvas and then brushed them out with a cheap sponge brush. After I got the background I went in with white acrylic and brush stroked random white lines to give a tree effect. Because I wanted birch trees I went in with black acrylic on a very small brush and painted horizontal lines through out defining the actual birch trees more. Once I got that done I just randomly added colors with different brushes, strokes, and thickness so that it would give the appearance of an abstract look.
