My Handmade Numbered Table

I found this handmade table at a yard sale last fall. It has been sitting in my garage waiting to be “beautified”. I brought it inside last week to start working on it.
The shape of this table is what sold me. Someone put it together using old pieces of wood and then cut it into a “star” shape. There were layers and layers of chippy paint all over it which also made me happy. (I don’t think I have ever met chippy paint that I didn’t like). The fact that the bottom of the table mimics the top (with the same star shape) is so great too!
This table has a lot going for it, but I was not a fan of the painted star design. Nothing a little paint couldn’t fix.
When I brought the table in the house to work on it, the paint wasn’t just “chippy”, but it was chipping off! All over the place!
It killed me to do it, but I had to sand and scrape the table to get rid of all the loose paint.
I painted the table a gray/green color. In the picture below it looks more green than it really is.
After the paint dried, the table needed something else. What could I add to it?
Why not “number” the table? I had some old house numbers lying on my desk so I traced around them on the top of the table.
It was just what the table needed. I painted the numbers black and after they dried, I roughed up the entire table with sand paper.
This table turned out great. It still has the old, handmade vibe that I loved when I bought it, but now it has a little flair to go with it. The shape of this table is what makes it so fabulous and I am excited to have it in our living room.
*On a side note……… I am thinking that maybe the star shape on the bottom of the table needs a number too. What do you think? What number would you put there?
