Prune, prune and prune some more. It will look scraggly but next Spring it will be beautiful again. Wisteria loves getting pruned.

When wisteria is HAPPY does it ever grow! If it is near your house it will become quite the problem unless you keep it pruned. They can take down pillars, creep under siding, and up and through gutters and roofs. Wisteria can be pruned heavily, so thinning and redirecting can happen- but you'll want to guide it away from your house.

I would likely dig it up and move it where it doesn't need to be restrained on a larger arbor. They can be shaped into a tree form. Something like a star jasmine is much easier to care for/maintain on a trellis.

Still, wisteria is pretty and romantic. I hope you find the right spot for it.

You can also prune it in the Winter, in Jan or Feb.

If I were pruning it, I would give away the pieces to Friends, so that they can have some of this Lovely plant.

You can try to cut it back. I had this issue with a honey suckle and ended up cutting it back pretty far. After that I always made sure to keep it trimmed. Otherwise you could try to add on to your trellis or pound metal rods into the ground to support the trellis better.

Be careful if this is near your house. Can weave through cracks in foundations. We had one at our old house the vines were growing between the porch and siding and literally pulling the porch away from the house. Beautiful flowers but should never be put near structures.

Oh, I love wisteria, but it can take over. I would prune it back as much as you can now, and do it on a regular basis.
