Try painting ten bottles including caps the color of your choice, use colored electrical tape to make two stripes around each bottle. Buy a ball and put it in a basket wrap with cello and a bow and give it away as DIY outside bowling ball set to kids and adults.
you can make planters out of them by cutting them in half. Also they make great bird feeders. Pinterest has great ideas also

I saw tops for sale that turn the bottles into in soil watering containers for when you are going to be away for a few days.
is it too early for Christmas decorations?
Fill them with water and freeze, use them in a cooler to keep cokes cold.
I found the how-to directions: http://suzyssitcom.com/2012/12/vintage-snowglobe-ornament-tutorial.html She uses clear plastic containers she found holding zip ties at the dollar store. She cuts off the top and bottom and works with a 4'' long tube. BUT the fact that each cut tube end goes into a Styrofoam ball half, means you can adjust the size to fit what you have, I would think. So you can put your 2 liter bottles to use! The bigger size means you can put bigger décor inside, like one of those Styrofoam snowflakes from the dollar store suspended by a string. Expensive? Well, Styrofoam balls, glue, you already have the bottles, and whatever design you want to decorate with like garland or anything holiday flavored. (Go to Hobby looby, joann's or Michael's with the 40% off coupon!). Good luck!
lay the bottle horizontally on your surface with the bottom of the bottle on the left and the spout on the right. As you look over the bottle, cut a rectangular piece about 1/3 from the left ending up around 1/3 from the right. you need to keep sides and a bottom to this hole As you will be filling it with dirt for plants. Wrap and glue twine around the spout portion, glue on buttons for eyes and paint the lid for the snout. If you plant with sedem or hens and chicks, it looks like a hedgehog. You can also paint the twine/snout pink to make it look like a pig
You could use them as insulation if there is an area that works for you. Just keep the caps on and gang them together.
