Hello Dawn; I have several Hydrangea plants. Mine are in filtered sunlight, which is very important. They Love acidic soil.
There are a several reasons that you may not see blooms on your hydrangeas: too much sun, over-watering and over-fertilizing.
Also, If they are planted in full sun, it may be too hot and intense for the blooms to produce.
Over-watering your plants can inhibit bloom production. Hydrangeas prefer moist, but not wet soil.
I make a mix of: plain soil, peat, composted material and cow manure. I dig this mixture around my plants and I add fertilizer to them, also. I water well.
My plants are older and are covered in blooms.
I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!
Hi Dawn
Most likely it has to do with the species. There are two types of hydrangeas. One blooms on new wood and the other blooms on old wood. When you prune your plant and it uses old wood to flower, you are cutting off all the buds that are forming. Here's an article that explains it and what you can do.

Go to a local nursery and ask for the right stuff so they will flower.
Unfortunately we have one that has only bloomed 2 times in 15 years some just do not bloom more than a couple of times read your paperwork when you buy them thanks
We have hydrangea bushes and last year one bush we only cut back a few of the stems and the other we left all the left over stems. Don't put it pick them at end of year. The following year they flower more than ever.
