Some photos are so unbelievably gorgeous you wish you had a painting of it. Well, I'm no artist so I pretty up garage sale picture frames to match and enhance the photo's colors.
This purple picture is amazing!
Here's my garage sale frame - I think I paid $.50 for it
I start with Mod Podge because the frame is plastic. I've found that unicorn spit adheres better to plastic with a layer of that first. I just use a cheap brush that I buy in bags from my hardware store. Mod Podge will dry clear.
I used Ravenous Raven and Dove's cry sparkling unicorn spit. The raven has multi colored sparkle in it, but you have to coax it to show by rubbing it gently once it's dry. It's very subtle and hard to capture in photos, but so pretty. Using a cheap brush and a paper plate for my palette, I first painted the frame in the Raven black color
Lightly wetting a paper towel I rubbed the black off the detail on the frame - this gave it an antique look.
Next I took a smaller brush and painted the raised detail in Doves Cry sparkling spit. Then I took a tiny brush and did the inner edges of the frame in the black Raven.
I lightly wiped off the raised detail with a damp paper towel to lighten up the purple color a bit. But further into the project I decided I wanted it a darker purple so I painted 3 more layers, drying between each one. You'll see in the finished photo that the purple is much darker than this picture
I didn't have the piece of glass from this picture frame so I used a cut piece of clear plastic, and the 5x7 photo was a little bit smaller than the frame so I needed a mat of some kind. . I took the cardboard insert and painted it with a mixture of Doves Cry and Purple Hill Majesty Unicorn spit. It looked like painted wood! I sealed that with a light mist of Rustoleum clear gloss spray sealer and let it dry
I used some Elmers Craft bond spray adhesive to glue the photo to the painted cardboard. Then I sealed the frame with Minwax oil based poly - I did two coats, drying a full day in between each coat.
And here it is - I glued a saw tooth hanger on the back with gorilla glue and now I just need to find a place to hang it in my house. icon
