Go for it, I would make it with heavy duty hinges along the bottom as tall as the bottom of that peak say in 3 panels that could be folded up if you move.
I would ask a very well known remodeling or patio contractor if they would extend the original front roof peak or would they change the porch roof totally ?
I'm not a builder, but IF they just place a "cover/roof/ ceiling" under the the lip of the roof, you may end up with problems with moisture and other things. Do right, it would be very cute, think about maybe extending whole covered porch to end at or under window in picture. Good Luck!
From the photo it looks as if you already have that or is that not your home
It would look great if you would just follow the same lines as the gable above the front door by extending it. Please be aware if you do add a porch you will lose natural light coming thru the front door & sidelight.
Hello Leblanctc, I think a porch would look great. I would keep the size of the porch between the two white panels. You might be able to use your railings from your existing porch. Hope this helps you. Good luck.
It is a good idea. But.. it is not easy simple or DIY. It is an architectural issue now and you need a contractor for sturctural, safety, zoning and insurance issues. But I would go for it. Total, you may be looking at $1500-$3000. But it is something that pays back in home value.
Do you want a porch or just a deck? My not-quite-tiny home (462 square feet) has a new covered entry and new wrap-around deck and I love it.
I agree with everyone else. I think a porch would be great and I would come off of the peak. Of course you will have to reinforce with at least 4 posts and more support. It would be best to talk to a person who remodels for his advise. Good luck......
