Contact your county ag agent or state University with ag services. Stare forrestry might also have suggestions. Ours not only gives suggestions for my area, but offered free trees in spring.
Palo Verde...drought tolerant and is a wispy green tree that gets beautiful yellow flowers in spring.
Joshua trees seem to do nice, some palms, when I need ideas, I get to know local nurseries and also know the manager or older experienced person in the nursery to ask some of my questions. Hope this helps.
