If there is a big gap you may need to use a back rod before caulking.

If the cracks are particularly wide, you may need to use cement patch. It's pretty easy to do and the directions are simple
What is the cement used for -- driveway? sidewalk? retaining wall? The other question would be determining what has caused the cracks -- roots? water drainage? In order to answer as to the "best way" --have to have the particulars.
