I've had luck by "thinning" the seeds husk.

a few tips that have GREATLY improved production with vine plants:

    1) File the edges of the seed lightly with a nail file or a piece of sandpaper. File all edges except the pointed end. This step allows moisture reach the seed easier. Most importantly, filing your seeds makes it easier for the leaves to emerge from the shell without damage.

    2) Be sure you plant the pointy side down when growing- it's the root source.

    3) when you have vines sprouting from the main vine, cut them off so the established vine gets as much of the nutrients as possible Since the plant uses so much energy to sprout new shoots.

This is EXTREMELY important when the vines start to bear fruit.

    4) Remember too much watering can lead to "Dampening Off Disease" (a white Powderly mold like stuff) , but nutrients are key to speed up the growing process even a little.

Use a 5-10-5 (Nitrogen-Phosphorous-Potassium) blend to ensure the plant is getting the right nutrients.

Some feel "more fruit is better", but my first season of growing, I learned that isn't the case. More means more stress on the plant and the 13 watermelons I had suddenly "self-aborted" (their term, not mine) and I lost all but two. I ultimately lost the last two to Black Blossom Rot due to not knowing to add additional calcium to the soil (Vine plants will deplete nutrients in the soil when they start to produce fruit)

The above has helped shave about 3-4 weeks off the growing process for me.

    Best of luck!

patience but you can also use miracle grow feed for the plants, this will nourish them and help them grow.
