e Yes, we have had off years and years where the yield fluctuated as well! We keep our mango tree small, approx. 15 ft. High with a diameter of approx. 20 feet! We prune it in the late summer and in fall at other times, not following any professional recommendations on timing! Pruning for us is a necessity due to the tree's close proximity to our home! The tree was planted 15 years ago! I would bet that pruning is recommended as we notice that mango trees growing without pruning, get very tall here with very little fruit. We think timing of pruning and proper pruning might have an effect on yield as well! Our tree is a late variety with mangos ripening at end of July in a southern Florida climate! We fertilize the grass, not the tree! I suggest you do a Google search on "mango tree maintenance."
Many fruiting trees "take a year off" every now and then. Wait it out. Trimming is a good idea
It takes two to 'mango'.
