It would make a lovely bench or depending on its width, possibly a bed head. Personally I would consider placing the carved portion on a mantle to show it off.
That's a beautiful carved piece of wood. Something you do not often see today. I would not do anything with it, structurally. I'd use it as a center piece someplace. Since I can't see the stand part, I can't suggest where.
Beautiful pieces like this are being ruined by people doing whatever the "in" thing today - like chalk painting - thereby decreasing it's value and loosing a unique item.
Ya, sell it to me.
Embellish over an entryway, probably interior, a headboard, the backsplash of sorts to an Otherwise plain entryway side table for keys & mail or a simple vanity or desk with the barest of accessories on top to not hide its beauty. Lastly to enhance an entryway or porch bench with cushions which hide little of this gorgeous woodwork. It could also serve to crown a wall section of framed family photos or art below strategically placed bringing honor to this area of any home.
There are 2 things I thought this could be the bed head ,,,of a magnificent bed..another thought is in the the right home a really large mirror this being the top running all the way down I thought for a hallway or bedroom....
If the carved piece is separate from what appears to be legs (was it a headboard?), it would indeed be beautiful on a mantle or hung on a wall. Don't feel compelled to "make it into something". It IS something just as it is.
Check if it's actually an antique if not restore it
if so appraise its value and go from there if restoration is in order
I see a gorgeous headboard, one that will truly make a statement! Whatever you decide to do with it, I'm sure it will be beautiful and attract many compliments. But if you decide to sell it, please let me know!
i cant see all of the piece in the picture... but it kinda reminds me of the" important " book display spot. bibles, dictionary's etc. were often displayed on ornate stands. if this is a head board get it appraised before you do any thing to it. it can be difficult to tell an original from a copy. are there any makers marks? do take pics of all sides and surfaces....and have it appraised by at least 3 different appraisers.
ps....if the finish on an antique has been replaced.....it's not worth as much as you would think. it actually drives the value down.
I too was thinking headboard (bed head), bench or the top of a bed canopy on the wall, if you can do any of those things without damaging it.
It definitely looks like a headboard to me. I agree with the advice to have it looked at and formally appraised before making any modifications to it.
make it an art piece ! just hang in on a wall and admire it. too beautiful to alter or remake into anything else. want to sell it?
just noticed the full picture with the bottom part, use as a headboard or make a bench and attach it to the bottom portion. very nice piece.
I agree with most people it is beautiful as is.You don't have to change anything it is a beautiful statement piece. Some things should just be left as is .
Hello Georgina; I believe that you have an Antique Headboard.
At one time, ornate Headboards were all the rage. (In my book, they still are)
Aside from that, I wish that I could see more photos of your piece......From what I can see, it looks quite old.
I would have someone look at it, as I believe that it is worth some $$
I hope that you have a good weekend! Take Care!
Looks like an antique french (see the fleur de lis) baroque head board to me. I wouldn't do a thing to it other than find a way to display it..... I would get a sofa table and make this the backing say against an entry hall in place of a mirror. https://www.google.com/search?q=pictures+of+antique+carved+french+head+board&client=opera&tbm=isch&tbs=rimg:Ccus_1ljafspGIjirvDRKImZLT_1x17XQRqg7srqzxQRLzTSWAbuFXGvbiqjfKbc1v7ThW0W2Thdf7DhYzOhSCWSCWoCoSCau8NEoiZktPEXDgDeFMpGvpKhIJ_1HXtdBGqDuwRqdM8350bFeEqEgmurPFBEvNNJRFo3w9c0_1Hu9ioSCYBu4Vca9uKqEXUpKZIASYh5KhIJN8ptzW_1tOFYRUKTV7iO4u88qEgnRbZOF1_1sOFhGFEtP9KHdDYioSCTM6FIJZIJagEQiTq_1HZgc_1P&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiC457umtLVAhVL2WMKHZmhAqUQ9C8IHw&biw=1366&bih=629&dpr=1
