Bougainvillea won't bloom

I have a bougainvillea on the southwest side of my house. It never blooms. Just gets long green branches. I have bought plant food specially made for bougainvillea and it sure did green it up, but no blooms. The one on the east side of the house (in a pot though) is blooming like mad since I used this fertilizer. Any suggestions?

Did you try the food that produces BLOOMS.......that is what I use on a LOT of my plants............It says BLOOMS on it..and you mix it with water.

Is it getting enough sun? The long branches are runners and you can trim those because your plant is wasting energy on them. Is the soil right? You can always move it. Good luck!

Bougainvillea also needs to set out completely between waterings. If is stays moist it will not bloom.

Hard as it is to believe of something so beautiful, bougainvillea is basically a weed and doesn't want you to love it. They bloom best when they are root bound so a lot of folks plant them in the pot. Don't water them very much, let them dry to about 2" down. Any plant food heavy on nitrogen will make them vine instead of bloom.

How much sun does it get? Lack of sun will interfere with blooming

It's up against south west side of house, so gets afternoon sun. I have one on southeast side that blooms like crazy. Maybe morning sun is better.

I ignore mine, no food, no attention, water every 2-3 days and it explodes with blooms. I have a red and a pink, both doing extremely well. Try neglecting:) I use to love my plants to death.....

I used to ignore mine too. Then the leaves turned yellow and looked really sickly but no blooms. With the specialty food it looks healthy and dark green but still no blooms. It does not get watered much. We live 40 miles north of Corpus Christi. Doesn't rain here much. Just can't figure it out. Gets afternoon sun. Frustrating. 😟

I have both in-ground and in huge pots. I ignore them but twice a year I do sprinkle them with bouganvillea food. They bloom quite a bit.
