We installed wood look tile throughout the living/family/kitchen areas and have large area rugs under sofa/table areas for comfort. Flows well and is good for our two dogs and/or water spills in the kitchen. Dark brown tone looks like wood. Down side: dogs shed so we vacuum often! With a small dog, laminate might work as well as bamboo flooring.

I have has a wood veneer floor for several years . I also have a dog and have not seen any damage. Just remember that it should not get very wet. Cleaning should be done with damp mops. I use Murphy's Oil Soap.
