You'll be fine growing your tree in a container that you can pull inside during the cold winter weather, Libby. It would probably be a good idea to put the container on a dolly so you can move it easily.

Yes you can if you have a sunny enough location indoors and humidity. It is at least worth a try. If you have outdoor space during the summer months I think it will work. Here are a couple links for you.

Not Outdoors!
You have to leave it in a pot so it can be moved inside.

I want to plant a Meyer lemon tree in chicago would it be advisable ?
No way. Nothing about the Northeast weather would benefit a Meyer Lemon Tree. You could try a container but it would keep the tree from growing big. Do you have a greenhouse? That would work. Check online to see if someone would bonsai a Meyer Lemon for you.
Plant it in a container and then bring it indoors in winter. Keeping it in a container will prevent it from getting too big.
I have a little meyer lemon tree and I have it inside in a south window, It gave me 5 lemons last year it's first year inside less than a foot tall tree, and this year I moved it to a little bigger pot and am letting it summer outside. I envision letting it get to about a topiary tree size and keep the inside/outside thing going as the lemons are worth it to me! I have a plant roller/caster base for it when it is indoors but really it's not too heavy to move.
Look for a dwarf lemon tree that you can keep inside near a window that gets full light.
