Just dig a small hole in the shape you want and larger than you want the finished pond. You can use carpeting scraps as an underlayment and use a purchased pond liner. Shape the blacker 'rubber' liner by folding it or gathering it. Cut it large enough that it hangs over the top of the hole, plus some. Place rocks around the edge of the pond on top of the liner, perhaps two rows. Then fold the cut edge back towards the pond and continue laying rocks until the liner is covered and you like the way it looks. This fold will help prevent leaks. Work your solar powered whatever into it, fill with water and enjoy.
Decide on the size you want and spray an outline on the ground. Dig the hole according to the outline you prepared. To help with easy clean up, place the dirt you dig up in a wheel barrow or on a piece of strong plastic. You can use the dirt, later to fill in low places or holes in your yard. Line the hole with plastic liner. Allow for an overlap of plastic on the edges to keep your pond from leaking. You trim it after you finish. Line your edges with large rocks.
solar needs batteries to store the power. make sure you get a fountain kit that will take standard rechargeable batteries and not a specialty type.
