Was it the bolt that holds the seat to the toilet bowl or the lid to the seat? Never thought of replacing the seat to lid bolt. I usually just look for a new seat and replace everything.
Can you loosen them a little without the seat sliding around?
Do you need a rubber washer (find in big box home improvement stores hardware section - those little cardboard drawers - or if you are lucky to have an old-fashioned hardware store) to give the lid a little more room to work properly?
loosen the screw some or rub a little olive oil on the screw
They make toilet seats that go down if you just give them a start. Try to adjust the bolts/screw so it has a little play in it. If that doesn't work I'd buy a new seat., If you have trouble, call Homedepot or Lowe's. I'm sure they can help you. Good Luck!
You didn't mention if you have a self closing seat or not. If it is a self closing, loosen the bolts and readjust because the spring in the seat is strong and the mounting lip may not have been flush with the bowl.
If it's a regular seat, some seats come with a gasket that go between the mounting lip and the bowl, and it sounds like that is missing.
It may be easier just to get a new seat that comes with new mounting hardware.
It is the bolt that holds the seat to the toilet the old one I found on the floor yesterday so since it was plastic I just replaced it
It is a self-closing seat which now it does not do and it is the bolt from the seat to the toilet. I tried to loosen the bolt but the seat slides around, there is a gasket there which I have tried with and without it, sad to say it still does not work properly.......Thank you for all your answers though I may just have to get a new seat
