The stairs to my basement are open in the back. I'd like to close them. How difficult is it?

I need some detailed information and description of how to diy decorate an modern open rise stair case. I have a open wooden stair case riser going up to my loft area. Underneath is our living room. The stair case is against the wall with the railing on the left facing the living room. How can I or what can I do to decorate it cheap and with things at home to block the back of the stairs and make it prettier. I need your help so bad I do not know what I’m doing and I do not have a clue what is the biggest, coolest, and best design that’s going on now. And I don’t have money to actually go out and buy things to do it. PLEASE HELP ME. I am trying very hard to get this old out dated 90’s house a little updated, classy and easy. I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP !!!!

  • And if you put a door on it, you have some extra storage space too.

    Hello again,

As, you don't have access to MDF or Hardboard or Plywood to do a permanent job, but appear to have a timber to the back of each step, I would suggest you screw or nail/pin fabric/sheet to the back side into the frame on the outside and the middle timber. That will stop the dust! If you have dress fabric you could use, that would look great too as patterned risers seem to be all the rage at the moment! If you don't have a large amount of one fabric, maybe cut up some old skirts/curtains etc. Measure the length and width of each step as you go. Cut fabric to fit and pin it in place or tape across front if you don't want the middle timber to show or on the back of stair if you do want it to show. Different fabrics will create the spanish tile look . Hope that's of help to you. Stay safe and keep busy.....................
