Hi Marina,
This is an article about an outdoor plant, but the indoor plant ones just told how to take care of one, nothing about what happens when something goes wrong. Hopefully something here will help you.

See if this helps - maybe not enough light or humidity?

It is not getting enough light. Although they are a part sun plant, you still need to give it morning sun or late afternoon sun, in order to produce blooms. Also, make sure you are giving it enough water, gardenias prefer "wet feet" so don't let it dry out. Hope this helps you achieve some beautiful, fragrant blooms! Good luck!
P.S. Make sure you feed it monthly with a good fertilizer for gardenias, azaleas, etc.
Depending on the location, sunlight, watering and the soil, it may take a long time for the roots to take and the plant to bloom. My mother's took almost 2 years before she had flowering.
Https://ask.extension.org. will be for your grow zone, but they really need to be outside in the spring, summer..you can winter over indoors, but put out when weather warms up. And be careful about pruning... They bloom on new growth, so if you cut back too late in the season, you will cut off the set for new flower buds.
Thank you.
