You need to treat your floors. The eggs, larvae, and cocoons are all found in carpeting as well as hard floors.
If you are on a raised foundation, spray under your house with a hose end sprayer. Then (for all housing types), you need to set off flea bombs. Follow the directions closely, they can start a fire if misused.
Another option is to hire a monthly service. Your dog will not become infested with fleas but the doggy flea control does not stop a flea or two from hitchhiking in! You can bring them in as well.
Hope that helps

Also, treat your yard with food grade Diomatoceous earth .
Diamateous Earth won't hurt your animal and yet will kill fleas. You can also treat your yard. I would never use Frontline or those other chemical things. This stuff kills both fleas and ticks.

To discourage biting fleas have a few tsps of apple cider vinegar a day. Turns your blood slightly acidic and fleas like blood on the sweet side.
To add to Kim's advice above, I had them in my house once, regular vacuuming is the key. I was told by my Vet that fleas have a 3-week life cycle, so I cleaned my carpets (with a rented carpet cleaner) once a week for three weeks, and used flea bombs, No More Fleas. Although cleaning up after the flea bomb was a challenge, the end result was worth it! I have also been told that Seven-Dust that some gardeners use works well for the yard. Last note: don't know if they still have the flea bombs - this was around 25 years ago.
My sister worked for a groomer and she put baby oil on her legs at first bite. I am not sure if it would help now. Benedryl now. I have same problem with fleas, giggers, and red bugs. Once bitten I itch for three months.
the bites I get are on my chest, stomach, , thigh and behind my ear. none on my legs. Just washed bedclothes and sprayed bed, floor, rugs armchair, and almost the whole house, I've used a flea spray. it says on the tin not to be used for human clothes or bedding!!!! wow!! too late, its done That's how desperate I am. thanks anyway
thanks for that Karen
Put flea collars in vacuum bags, too
