What kind of plants will keep the neighbor's cats away from my garden?
Well, the cats come and pooh in my vegetables garden, but I don't want to hurt them...
soak small rags or paper towels in ammonia and place (using gloves) in small bags unsealed then place in area where you do not want them. They hate the smell of it. Also anytime you cut hair, mustache and beard, body hair etc... save it and put in garden. They also don't like us or our smell. These two options really fork. also egg shells crushed up should stop them as they may cause discomfort however I'd go with the odorous options vs inflicting pain.
Send them my way. They eat unsavory critters
Well, i have a huge deck in my backyard and my mother once was surprised by a snake as she was gardening that came out from underneath my deck! She killed it, of course but she called me at work after she did and made it sound like it was a phyton, lol. It was a garden snake nonetheless it scared the life out of mom so, I bought a screen (heavy one) and stapled all around the bottom of my deck to keep wild animals away from building a home! We live by a forest preserve so wild animals run around our area. But I never have problems with them because I now have 3 dogs that's always in my yard and keeps them off my yard.
Keep your bushes, trees trimmed and secure your garbage lids. Wild animals look for food so I keep an empty aluminium soda can with five pennies inside it by the driver side of my car cause (the rattle from the pennies in the can will scare them off) once I pulled up on my driveway and a mother raccoon and her 3 cubbies were sitting underneath my pine tree and we sat in the car for almost an hour waiting for them to leave. My pine trees branches were too low so now I keep my branches trimmed high so no animal can hide underneath it!
If its not poisonous, they are beneficial to your home, they will keep the rats and mice down. I know they can be startling when you encounter them, but just tell yourself they are good and you will get over your fear.
They use to put an old prickly hemp rope around flower beds to keep them out, and we used them to put around our sleeping bags when we camped out. You could try a ring of fireplace ashes and diatomaceous earth too.
The best way to keep snakes at bay is to keep your lawn or pasture grasses no longer than 3 inches. Keep limbs, rubbish, rocks, etc., picked up so there is no where for them to hide. Keep weeds around your home, deck, gardens, feeders, etc., cut down. As Sharon said, please try to remember that snakes (especially the garden snakes) are not harmful and are greatly beneficial at keeping toads, mice, rats, etc., numbers down.
