I hung a piece of dog stake out chain under a pergola . .
Just hook the hangars in the links and they will stay separated .Unlike a rope where they slide to the middle. I also put things on the hangars inside out to reduce sun fade . .You can finger press places that need a bit of straightening.

Just sharing the chain I refer to is the kind that had figure 8 wire links with a center also wire wrapped . .very cheap usually 12 feet long
