if you have a company in your area that makes granite counter tops - call them and see if they would polish the top for you --if it's small enough to be removed and taken to them -- or they might have an idea about polishing it out at home. Marble is very porous and stains are usually permanent - good luck!

I've had success with baking soda to remove hard water stains off of my marble countertop in my bathroom. I make a paste of baking soda and water and gently rub it in (not scrub), then I wipe away all excess and clean with just soap and water. Then I use a marble polish to finish. I'm pretty quick to wipe up any water or soap or toothpaste off of it to avoid stains in the first place, but with kids, they still get ahead of me. I clean it about once a month because we are on a well and even with a water softener, we still have hard water. Good luck!
