inside or outside
Ants are not a problem if you have cornmeal. Put some on their ant hill or where you see a trail of them outside or inside. They take it back to the nest and it kills the queen and colony. They cannot digest it. We use Jiffy as it is sweet and they go crazy for it. We have had them infest our potted plants outside and even red ants try to take over our yard. We tried all the poisons and bait. Only cornmeal worked like magic. One small box of Jiffy is good for at least 5 applications if you really cover an ant hill. I keep Jiffy in my pantry for ants! It is not harmful to pets, children, and the environment, only ants. It is inexpensive too.
You need to know what kind of ants and make sure that you kill the queen. Sugar/piss ants come into you home to bring the queen whatever she needs so if you just kill the ones you see, she will replace them.
Here is a great link to ways. I use a powder like substance called diatomaceous Earth. It is organic made up of crushed shells and coral. It cuts the exoskeleton of the ants, ticks, and any other insect with a exoskeleton making them become dehydrated and then they die. It is safe for pets, kids, and bees. In the house the biggest thing is to see where they are coming in, and clean with water and baking soda. You need to get rid of there scent trail. http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Ants-Naturally
There is an easy way to rid your home or yard of ants. Use cornmeal. They take it back to the queen and the colony dies. Ants cannot digest it. It is inexpensive and safe for pets, children, and the environment. Sprinkle liberally on the hill or trail you see them making. I keep Jiffy in our pantry just for ants when they show up (and they do every spring). One box makes at least 5 good applications. It is inexpensive and they love it because it is sweet.
I "discovered" diatomaceous earth this year. I applied it to the edge of all the outside walls (and any paths inside the house I had noticed). Wear a dust mask when applying, as it is a desiccant and you don't want it in your lungs. I swept it into the "cracks" of the walls where the floor meets the wall. We've only had the rare ant this year, and used no poison when other years we've had to use the poison or be over run.

I called my exterminator, when I could not get rid of ants. I tried every home remedy known and could not get rid ot them. My family and I were extremely careful about cleaning crumbs and closing food packages. The ants just kept coming , since I called the exterminator, no more ants! Yea!
thank you all for your help
mix equal parts of borax and sugar and spread in their path. Sometimes works better if you add water to make a paste.
packaged cornbread mix that says it is sweetened and put it where they are coming in if you can find it, or even on your counter in a small lid. They will take it to the mound, everyone will eat it and die, they can't digest the cornmeal, but will take it because it is sweetened. Little goes a long way.
