5 Minute Tassel for Your Door (or Somewhere Else!)

Have you ever looked at a space and just thought that it needed something small to add some texture? When we were renovating our split-level entryway, taking it from dated to modern (see the entryway reveal here)... I felt like the space was lacking in texture. With some scrap fabric and five minutes, I was able to do this project and give the space just a bit of texture.
First things first, gather your supplies. You will need: Shears, Glue Gun, Fabric and a Measuring Tape.

Before you get started, think about where you want to put your tassel. I played around with different sizes and ended up loving a small one for a hook and a large one for my door knob.

You can make your tassels any size! For my large tassel, my fabric piece was 8" by 29" (perfect size for a doorknob). My small tassel (perfect size for a backpack, hook, etc.) was 4" by 15".

Step 1: Measure and Cut your Fabric
Step 2: Start cutting your fabric piece so that it looks like fringe. Make sure to leave about 1/2" at the top uncut. You don't need to measure this out, just eyeball it.
Step 3: Cut a scrap piece of fabric to use as the hanger portion of your tassel.

Step 4: Using hot glue, make a loop out of your scrap piece and glue it on the inside of one end of the fringe.

Step 5: Start rolling the fringe in on itself. Keep rolling until you come to the end of the fringe. Use a small bit of hot glue to glue the end onto the tassel.

That's it! How simple and easy, right? I think this would even be a fun project to do with kids or grandkids.

As you can see, I used leather to form my tassels and it worked great.
How cute does the small tassel look hanging from my DIY Coat Rack (the coat rack is another simple project - click over to see!)?

It adds some visual interest to the space for sure.

The big one hangs on the door knob. I love the added texture it brings to the dark door!
