Hi Shelly, there are several ways you could go about it. One of them would be - if you have a little space in your room - to lay the pictures on the floor like you would want to hang them and arrange them in a way that you like best. That way you can play around a bit with the design. You could also do that on the wall with tape (easy to remove tape)... or that you would have to measure your frames and outline them with the tape on the wall... this is not as flexible or easily changed as the disply on the floor of course.
Btw you can also use tape to measure the distance between the hangers or holes in your pictures (lay it on their backs over the holes, mark the holes on the tape and then use that tape on the wall to space out the nails or screws... just remember to make sure the tape is straight when you use it on the wall).
I hope, this helped a bit :)
I always lay out on floor to get the grouping to look right, take measurements, then take a photo, then start hanging on wall.
measure out the dimensions of the wall by taping off the floor or putting down craft paper and rearrange the pictures until you have it the way you want and use that placement and measurements to mark the nails or holders on the wall!
I would use the floor, you may have to move furniture around a bit, but it is the easiest way to arrange and change around without having to put them up on the wall. My mother always put the biggest in the middle and then arranged around that one picture to get all the different sizes in the correct spot.
thanks for the great idea
Work on laying them out on the floor first by marking off with tape the wall area you will use. Try to keep things such as all the tops of the frames in line, all the outside verticals of the frames in line, etc. Play with the layout until it pleases you. The center of the entire area of pictures should be about at eye level.
Lay them out in the floor first until you are pleased with the arrangement and then transfer them to the wall.
Put down brown mailing paper taped in rows the size of the area on floor, then do your layout until your pleased, then make pencil marks on the corners of each picture frame, and then poke a holes, Now tape the paper on the wall, and put the pencil in each hole as a guide on your frame corners for each picture. You can also label each picture to correspond to the paper template.
