There is a specific killer for broadleaf or ivy at you local nursery or home depot/lowes.

Cut the ivy back as far as possible, place a 'collar' around the root base and spray with RoundUp.

One thing I learned from a tree guy, is they put the ivy poison on a rag, and then cut the stalk, wrap it rag and all in plastic wrap and foil (like your doing air layering) and leave it till it dies.

This is just the thing! I find this works wonderfully. You have to cut down the ivy and then brush this on the top of where you cut it. Bonide
