a pressure washer on a garage door is not a good thing if the garage panels are press board. the pressure washer can gouge the panels. if there is no press board, go ahead and pressure wash with a wide nosel attachment. its a lot faster and less work.
Wash the doir with TSP, available at Lowe's and Home Depot. Prime the door and then paint with an exterior enamel paint.
A pressure washer sure is handy but not necessary. A hose with a sturdy nozzel and good water pressure should do the trick. Next scrape any loose paint chips and sand surfaces. Dust sawdust and debree, start with a liberal coating of primer such as kilz, when dry thoroughly paint your desired color. Oftentimes it takes more than one coat of paint to reach your desired color and finish.
Use the jet spray on your hose to wash both. You can wash both down with diluted Dawn dish soap to remove any grease, etc. and rinse extremely well. Scrape off any loose paint and lightly sand all around. KrudKutter makes a spray on grease, grime remover that also makes the surface porous in prep for painting.
You may need a special paint if either is metal. Rustoleum or other "direct to metal" paint will last. Happy brushing!
btw....use an angled paint brush on the door and combo roller and brush on the garage door. If the garage door has no embellishments, cut in with the brush all around and roll on the paint.
