Wash it down with a bleach/water mix. Tea Tree Oil will also remove mold.

I always use a 10% solution of bleach in a spray bottle, spray it repeatedly till it disappears. Be sure mist doesn't fall on fabrics, carpets or upholstery cause it will bleach out. Put down plastic sheets if you have too.

Then figure out a way to prevent it by getting a fan to move the air, a dehumidifier if its really moist, you can also use Damp rid and I get mine from the Dollar Tree for closets. You could repaint the ceiling with a paint using mildewcide.

Kilz would cover it, but you need to find out where the moisture is coming from first, make sure you are not having a leak from the roof or a pipe. Water from the roof will go downhill and find a low spot to come out.

We used ceiling white paint & Sherman Williams had a little package of stuff to mix in paint to keep mold away. It worked really well. We had a small bathroom & a fan but ceiling kept molding over shower. Have not had anymore problems.

Make sure the source of the mildew/mold is dealt with...major health issues if the source is not dealt with. Mold gets in walls and spreads rapidly.
