Hi Kathy, Without knowing details, here's a link I hope will help: https://www.familyhandyman.com/plumbing/drain-repair/how-to-eliminate-basement-odor-and-sewer-smells/view-all/
Good luck!
Make sure that drains that are not used for periods of time get water flushed down them. Been there done that. In a previous house we had a room in the basement that had an area slready set up for a bathroom. Since it wasn't used, it would sometimes give off a sewer smell. We would dump water down it and that would take care of it.
IF any simple remedies such as water flush don't work, please have a plumber come out! IF you have some kind of back flow or something that is causing the odor, you really should have a proper repair done. This could be potentially hazardous to your health!
"It's not healthy to breathe sewer gas. In fact, sewer gas can be dangerous. The foul smell is hydrogen sulfide, a gas that comes from decaying organic matter, aka sewage. In a residential home, it exists in low levels and can occur if a plumbing problem exists."

All good suggestions. If you have a bathroom rough-in with an open pipe for the toilet or vanity drain, put a big rag (not a small on that can fall in), to block the smell.
Time for a plumber. This could be dangerous
