In my opinion, ribs should be cooked until the meat falls off the bone. Boiling the ribs a few minutes first helps break down the membranes. Then we put them in the oven with a dry or wet rub, cover them well, and cook all night at a low temp. 1000 variations. After that no membranes left. Just beef, bones and fat. Best wishes 😇

I use a filet knife. Most people use them to file fish, but it works great on the rib membrane. I boil them with a cut up vidalia onion, then put them in a pan and pour BBQ sauce sweet and spicey. Then I put them in the oven for about 30 to 45 minutes on 325.

The Alaskan ULU knife is the way to go!!!

Removing the membrane is no problem with it because it's made for skinning with a blade that is sort of a triangle with a rounded sharp bottom and the handle on the top of the squat triangle. Hard to explain but worth the money for a good one!!!

Hello Grantevers, We love ribs too. If you simmer the ribs in a pot of equal parts water and apple cider vinegar for an hour, the vinegar breaks down the membrane. Then either put them in the oven or on the grill for a half hour while basting with your BBQ sauce. Mmm Mmm Good.

A trick I learned on TV is to work one corner loose, grab it with a paper towel, and pull off as much as possible. Repeat until the membrane is gone.

Ask the butcher behind the counter to do it for you.
