About this time last year I bought two red maples. I cared for them over the winter months by giving them a drink once a month until Spring. One of of them came back very well but the second one showed no signs of life until I noticed a tiny red leaf sprouting at the very base of the tree. I fed both trees with Jobe's spikes and both of them are now roaring strong. Maybe there's too much fertilizer depending on what you used. Give it more time and they may recover.
Beautiful trees! See if this link helps.

It may still be acclimating itself. As long as this tree is recommended for your growing zone brown leaf edges generally means it needs more water. The roots are not deep yet.
Give it epson salt, 1 tablespoon to 1 gallon of water. It's totally safe and good for all your plants, shrubs etc. Mine love it.

I have a japneese magnolia that i thought was not gonna make it my sister told me once she had a lemon tree and it wasn't doing well so she went out ther and whipped it lol .... you have to treat trees like children except whipping them and talk nice to them she said the following year she had lemons on her tree so my tree got ran over by a car that wrecked in my yard i had to tie it up because one of my limbs was broken the following year i had beautiful flowers on my tree so try whipping it and also pull all dead leaves off the tree because it take more nutrients to try to thrive making dead leaves turn green but will never happen and i wish you the best Good Luck!!!!
My parents had a Red Maple tree in their front yard for probably 15 yrs. All of a sudden the leaves started turning brown and falling off. Just like yours the leaves turned brown on the edges first then the whole leaf would die and fall off. When they finally found out the cause it was too late. It was infested with the Ambrosia Beetlealso known as the Asian Beetle. The trunk of the tree had what looked like the ends of toothpicks sticking out all over it. The toothpick looking object was actually where the beetles had bore through the tree and that was the sawdust protruding out from the trunk! The tree ending up dying the next season. R
You might want to look into something for iron deficiency. Ask your local nursery for help they have products to help your trees turn green and help with the acid in the soil

Red maple trees like 'wet feet' - in other words, their roots like a lot of water. My Dad planted ours where a spring runs all year long and the tree is thriving. Good luck - they are such beautiful trees.
Water, water, water! Believe me, your tree is crying for water.
