Depending on what you plan on storing on the wire shelving, it would make a difference on whether or not you purchased the actual shelving or made the units. I use wire shelving in my laundry room for stock items such as heavy bags of dog food, laundry detergent, etc.
I once had wire shelving in a pantry and found small things fell through, so we cut sheets of poly plastic to fit. It was great. I could still see through the shelves but nothing slipped through the spaces and the plastic was easy to wipe clean

for little things, I got clear shoe boxes so things not fall thru, ie, gravy packs, spices, etc. Can still see wht you need
My favorite project with chrome wire shelving is a tiered pot rack.
All you need is 3-5 shelves & some E-books.
Top shelf at highest possible position to hang fry/sauce pans
Then a shelf for lids
Then hang stock pots
Then a shelf to catch any falling pots
Then some bakeware
And a bottom shelf for stability
I have 1 in my kitchen like that right now
