Remove the couch if you can and store it elsewhere, use a love seat and a couple sitting areas. Maybe one area would include a t.v., but the other just two rockers or wooden chairs by a small table. Think "conversation" and the smaller furniture broken into groups will make the room seem less long and more inviting.
Take out everything! Then only put back items that are not big and overstuffed and look good. No chairs with a blanket on it. A LARGE white rug would bring the room together. Get rid of the small brown rugs. Simplify! No small pictures on the wall. I suggest houzz.com for ideas. Charming space. Should be no trouble at all.
Take out the rugs so the room apoears larger. Pack up all personal items and stage simply. Rearrange rurniture so that it shows light and bright. Add a few toss pillows or throw for a pop of color. Keep artwork generic. Window treatments should be simple. Ask your estate agent for suggestions too.
When you show it take out the rugs so that the floors can be seen as one focal point. I have always heard that the bare minimum of furniture is the best and take out any personal items like family pictures. You want the future buyers to be able to imagine there belongings in the house, not yours. When you decide on a realtor to use, ask them, they see what helps sell. You may need to get a storage unit for a short while to store things, but may help sell it quicker.
Dark spaces don't show well. Buyers like light and bright. I'd suggest removing the dark curtains entirely, and substituting something lighter for the dark slipcover on the sofa and the throw on the bar stool. I'd also remove the fan-shaped wall decor over the sofa, and let the framed art stand on its own. Add pops of color in lighter fabric with throw pillows on the sofa. If you can buy or borrow light colored rugs, possibly in an inexpensive natural fiber like sisal or jute, that would also give the room a fresh-but-neutral lift.
Declutter, remove all your personal items so the potential buyer can imagine there items in the space.
I would lose the recliner, the high chair, the ottoman, and I would put up either a more modern ceiling fan or a light fixture. Take out the shelving pieces, keep closet door closed and remove some of the clothing so they can see how much space thereis. The rugs need to go, as does the couch cover. If you need to cover the couch get one of the knit stretchy covers. I would take those fans and pieces above the pictures off, and lower the one picture even with the one behind the couch.th
Before some comes to view, make a pot of coffee and bake some cookies (just get the ones already to cook) This is supposed to make the potential buyer feel at home.

I would remove all the dark brown rugs, throws and curtains and replace with voile to let in more light, replace rugs with one big lighter on, take out any very personal items i.e. Photos etc. Maybe the small picture with the fan above could also be removed and replaced with a neutra, larger, brighter one?
Remove all large/bulky furniture. Replace with smallish open pieces. Don't use boxy end tables. No coffee table. It restricts the room size visually, subconsciously becoming an obstacle. Remove all window treatments and "dress" the windows with large slat blinds and, if you must, a light-colored valance. Take everything off the walls and replace with neutral decorative pieces, hung at eye level. As it is now, your wall decor is too close to the ceiling. An unusual mirror would help to give the illusion of a larger space. Take up all the rugs and let the floor speak for itself unless there are some blemishes that would be obvious. In that case, put a rug down that is large enough to encompass most of the room. That will unify the furniture.
Remove your art work it is hung incorrectly. Close the closet doors, remove item by the staircase. We need more photos as it is not possible to tell what the total room looks like. Turn the rug by the sofa so it matches the length of the sofa. Remove the other two rugs, Turn the chair so it faces the sofa, and remove the towels that cover it. What is by the closet door and what is on the right in one of the pictures? anyway remove the frondy stuff that is dripping over. Post more pictures, it is best for advice for people to see all the four sides of a room.
Way too much clutter all over the place and on the walls. Take it all out, light and bright is the way to go.
I agree with the others. Remove rugs and heavy cutains, the recliner and nicknacks. Don't put anything between the closet and stairs. If you want to keep your artwork group it together, lower over sofa, and remove the fan.
I'm suprised no one has mentioned hanging a large rectangular mirror over the sofa. It would look great with a narrow console table between the wall and sofa. Put a few tall candlesticks on the console table. They will reflect in the mirror.
Face couch. Towards window
