There is a spell check when someone writes a post, discussion or comment. It really doesn't matter. This is a DIY site where people work with their hands. This is not a Writer's Guild. What you find appalling, to me is I DON'T CARE!
Perhaps you should contact the actual website help desk and speak to them about this issue.
I guess spelling just went out the window in education. The website found the answers very funny and on their side. Spellcheck evidently was not working. So much for trying to correct this issue !!!
This website is used by many people, some of whom share ideas, some ask questions, some answer questions, and some share other sites that may be able to help with a particular problem.
We are a collaborative of people who love to work with our hands and love to share. The goal is to create beautiful things and spaces.
I understand that poor grammar can drive some of us crazy! I also realize that each of us needs to spend our time in spaces that give us joy and peace, not in places that make us miserable.

Mary, "went out the window"/! Save that window. May be one of our talented, skilled, innovative Hometalkers can show you how creative they can be.
Not everyone speaks English as their first language, as this is an international site. Others may not know how to use spell check. Some people are dyslexic. As long as I understand what message they are trying to convey, it really does not matter, I am more interested in their creativity and knowledge.
Oh, Mary!!!! You've really struck a nerve here with me as it also drives me crazy to see such awful spelling, grammar and sentence structure!! You are absolutely correct when you say that it "sends a bad message". I haven't read the Post to which you are referring; I don't really need to as I see this lack of education missing in nearly everything I read these days. At the collegiate I attended (Ontario, Canada), you wouldn't even be allowed to graduate if you didn't have these basic skills! It's so easy these days to spell a word correctly as anyone can go on Google and look it up or if a person doesn't know the difference between "where" and "were" (for example), again, Google can come to the rescue!
Since I imagine many people are just trying to get their message out in limited time, I would cut some slack to posters here. It is newspaper errors that are really so aggravating!
You'd think!......................I'm with you. If someone has something to say, it is diminished by errors. Makes you insecure about the directions that are given since they could be incorrect as well.
