The oven liners are made to be used in the oven only. They may not be able to take the heat of a burner with a pan weighing it down. If you want something to protect the surface when it is not hot, put a cutting board on it so you can use it as a work surface. Just make sure the burner spots have completely cooled down before you put it on the stove top.
I've used them on the bottom, I wouldn't put anything on top as the top can stay hot for a long time. Witness my neighbor set her house on fire, and had repairs for 6 months.
No just use in oven, the stovetop is too hot for it.

They are made for use in an oven or bbq grill. You could ruin your pretty glass cooktop trying to use one on it since they are rated for temps less then a cooktop puts out.
They will melt, ruining your stovetop as they are not meant for direct heat use. We had one touch the element in the stove somehow and it melted...what a mess! If you're worried about scratching your cooktop, just make sure that the bottoms of your pots and pans are spotless. Works for us!
Will only withstand 200°. (212° is boiling of water!) Keep bottoms of pans clean. I scrub cast iron with old-fashioned steel wool once or twice a year.
