I used those wooden plant trellises (that looked like basket weave) and posts but I made sure is protected it with oil based sealer first. You can buy it at Lowe's. It's cheap and beautiful! If you really want privacy, you can buy those cloth screens which will also protect you from the sun! You can get them by the garden area. It's cheap enough!
Cindy does your back porch have a railing around it? Below is a video that the guy who posted did NOT have a railing around it so he had to figure out how to make the posts too (DON'T FORGET TO GET A BUILDING PERMIT FROM YOUR CITY BEFORE YOU START YOUR PROJECT)

I LOVE the video below because he was very descriptive about what he was using AND he had precut al lthe wood needed and bought theroofing and everything ahead of time so that once he was going to make the video he was able to do it all at once (just makes sense to have it all ready even if you're not going to make a video):

AND THEN this one is a woman (2 parts) doesn't look easy by any means, but certainly less expensive than a pro would charge; I'm in awe!:

Back Porch to Outdoor Room!
Are you saying your porch is covered and you want ideas for decorating? If so, this is what I did: I used pallets, large dog beds and lots of pillows to create a comfy corner bench. I placed colored wine bottles on wooden dowels to decorate the corners, added a small patio table, deck lights and wind chimes. I also made roman blinds to fit all around. It is now my haven all spring and fall. It's too hot/humid in Iowa July and August.
