To 3-4 parts of paint, add one part of a chalky material. Stir until the paint is smooth, and don't mix up more than you can apply because the chalk paint will start to dry out. When you do leave the paint, seal it with plastic wrap and paint can lids.
Add ins:
ground chalk
Epson salts
cornstarch
plaster of Paris (dries very quickly).
talc
baking soda
borax

Each makes a very different texture and paint. And there are dozens of recipes.
Best wishes 😇

Mix 1/3 cup of plaster of Paris and 1/3 cup of cool water; stir until completely smooth. Mix that with 1 cup of latex paint and stir thoroughly. This will make enough chalk-finish paint for one coat on a six-drawer dresser. Chalk-finish paint should not be stored and reused.
How durable is chalk paint? I want to redo my round oak tabletop, but finish must be able to stand up to a lot of use.
You can apply the chalk paint, and then spray with lacquer...or put a coat or two of butcher's wax on it.
I am addicted to 'Chalk Paint'. Not only it is durable, it is so easy to paint on any surface. No primer needed on most cases. I even use my Chalk Paint on filing cabinets without any primer or prep other than wipe clean (to get rid of any dust). To me, Chalk Paint has soft look and I can do a lot with Chalk Paint piece pieces of furniture vs just regular painted pieces of furniture.
I love to use the cornstarch version. So easy to make and smooth. Others can be gritty. Also, I store my leftovers in tight sealing jars for months and months. Always works fine, just stir well.
