Beach decals or beach theme pictures using mod podge
there are lots of beach stencils.
Coloured Stripes like Deckchair
I'd collect beach resort postcards and modpodge them to the top - the kitschier the better.
Hi Mary! The link I am providing gives instructions on applying palm leaf decals. Although the instructions are for applying to a tray, I thought this would really look pretty on your Dad's bench in your bedroom and be a good fit with your beach theme! The best beaches I've been too always had a palm tree or two nearby! Check it out:

Use salt wash an actual product you add to paint and it makes great beachy stuff
Rope trim around the edges, but you could just style it with beachy type accessories
Perhaps your easiest option would be to go to wallpapper store, look through samples of marine themed paper, get a large sample glue to table using pva glue. once dried add a couple of coats of matt varnish. Easy and inexpensive.
I think being a small article of furniture, that a few stenciled Hibiscus Flowers and leaves would look great, but don't over do it as that would make the top look too busy. Happy decorating, Colin.
Look around and find an older book with seashell drawings. Mod podge them on.

Make it into a game table, put a checker bard in the center, store game pieces on jute through te hole, let them hang, every thing is there for the game sand the edges to give it the weathered look. Use decals pictures, decorate the legs. thr table wii be useful and beautiful.
What a wonderful foot stool. You can visit your local craft store for decals, or decoupage a nautical map, or paint a beach theme. The legs can be painted a shade of blue of your choice to go the the decor. Have fun.
when i saw the technique on pinterest and hometalk - I had to google to find it
Ask all your Facebook friends to send you some 😎
I'd sprinkle actual sand on top of it, it would stick to plain wet paint. Then maybe some seashells around the edges? Good luck!
Rust oleum actually has spray paint that looks like sand in both color and texture. You could either do the whole top and put rope on the edge, or use a stencil or make a pattern such as stripes.
You could definitely use pictures of sea shells . . . I use Elmer's glue though for my decoupage and you would have to polyurethane it two or three coats. Also If you have a beach near you, you could make like a sign like a sign post "pointing to the beach" I like the idea of the rope trim, you could put it on the edge of the top. You could also paint the top the color of sand, scan in some pieces of sea glass on your scanner, ditto for shells and cut them out then glue them randomly on the table top. You could also do the top in the theme of olden days at the beach. Find some black and white pictures of people in old fashioned bathing suits and maybe even some pics of those old conveyances women used to enter the water in. There is a great e.e. cummings poem about little girls at the beach, you could write that on top of your table.

If it's purely for decoration and not functionality, what about covering it in sand dollars, the legs too?
Or... If u do want 2 be able to put stuff on it, construct a 2" rim around the top of the table and put the same dollars on and pour epoxy on top.

Paint a light house with sail boat in back ground, wood burn your last name on top, your favorite flowers on it. What ever your favorite sea shells are. Close your eyes & let your mind close in what you like about the sea or beach then you have it. Good luck.
A print or postcard of vintage mermaid or those famous girls water skiiing that say welcome to Florida. So cute.
