What is the best way to plant avocado seeds?

I have been growing two avocado seeds in water. They have long roots and are ready to plant. I live in northern California where the coldest it gets is low 30's.

How Deep, full sun, part shade, watering, fertilizing? Whatever Information would be appreciated.
