How to arrange decor on a mantel visually cut in half by woodstove?

My cathedral-ceilinged living room has a stone hearth with a woodstove centered on one wall. The woodstove has a black vent pipe that goes up to the ceiling, so it visually cuts the mantel behind it in half. Right now, I have an eclectic hodge-podge of art, vases, candlesticks, etc. filling up the mantelpiece. I'd like to unclutter it and showcase a few good pieces, but the view changes so much depending on which part of the room I'm in that I'm all confused what to do. Any ideas?
