You will have to cut it all the way down and smother there roots. There is no other way with out using chemicals which will kill your trees
It is not a one and done deal so don't get discouraged. We pulled the vines back to its roots and then put round up on that root. It still took a couple of years of this for it to fully go away
I thought the lady from New York was so sweet saying smother it.
I live outside Yazoo City and we try hard to be chemical free but Wisteria is in a class by itself. Do not use undiluted RoundUp as it will only kill the leaves. Cut the vine back to the trunk and score the trunk with a hatchet and spray the score marks with RoundUP. Do not use RoundUp on a day that has any wind at all as RoundUp is lighter than air and will float off and kill everything it floats and touches, of course, here I am speaking about tender annuals. You will have to be vigilant. It will take more than one try but if you persevere you can kill it. You will have to walk your yard every spring and kill that year's volunteers. Yes, I am serious. Step daughter and I bought one at a flea market the same day. She rushed to plant hers and I kept looking for the right spot at my house. Eventually mine died from my indecision. Her's ate the back of her house and she, in a desperate attempt to stop it, hasn't been seen in years. (wink! wink!)
But wisteria smells so good
