How do you repair holes in gray vinyl siding due to rocks hitting it?

We have gray vinyl siding that has holes in it from rocks flying when mowing the lawn. Can these holes be repaired?

From what I understand the whole piece needs replaced. But if someone has something that works I would love to know! We have some spots from hail we got during a storm.

We put clear caulking in ours. It's not the prettiest when up close, but you can't see it from a distance. It's better than bees going in and making a nest. We have had that issue this summer we've found 3 nests under our siding. 1 wasp, and 2 yellow jackets.
I will try plugging one of the wholes to see how it works. I will look for light gray caulk, however.
