Garden question here.

I had several rose trees that died over a particularly cold winter, though it left some "suckers" that have grown over the summer. Will they ever develop buds and bloom? I think not, my husband thinks so. I appreciate your expertise!
Thanks!

Hello Kathy; I have had the same thing happen, here!

What I would do is this.

Fertilize and water the suckers, well.

It is worth a try, to see if they will grow for you.

It depends on what type of Rose bush that the original plant was grafted from. The suckers could have reverted back to the original plant.

Please take care of them and see what grows!!!

I saved the suckers, and was able to have two Rose bushes grow from them.

I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!

  • you could try wait and see. I had same problem. Out of curiosity I fed and watered it, got nice pretty roses from it. I have a " natural" yard, not a formal one, integrating different kinds of things.
